J.B. Roy State Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital is widely regarded as the best BAMS college in Kolkata and one of the oldest Ayurvedic academic institutes in India, founded in 1916 - its foundation stone was laid by Mahatma Gandhi. It is a government institute directly under the West Bengal Department of Health & FW, and has been honoured by the Ministry of AYUSH as a 'State Model College of Ayurveda'. Seat intake is reported between 60 - 75 for the BAMS programme depending on the source/counselling year - candidates should confirm the current - year seat matrix on the WBMCC AYUSH counselling portal. Annual fee is government - subsidised and among the lowest in India for BAMS (a low four - figure per - year tuition figure, per public fee - listing sources) - always verify the latest fee against the official prospectus. NOTE: unlike MBBS, 'placement package' figures quoted by some aggregator sites for BAMS are not meaningful in the way they are for engineering/MBA - most BAMS graduates go on to clinical practice, PG Ayurveda seats, or government postings rather than corporate campus placement.
